David Duerinckx from Hoegaarden, spent part of his life trying to break through with a product he created. He likes bikes and riding them was one of the pleasures of his life, but riding alone was not the thing he liked most. Every time he took a girlfriend with him, they didn’t feel the same experience of pleasure and feeling of safety as he did. So he started thinking and created Tankgrip.
He worked on a prototype during 4 months, without knowing if it would be an advantage for the duo-rider or not. This all started 10 years ago, the beginning of a long way, with a lot of obstacles. The biggest problem in the beginning was the appearance, they looked like phone horns on a gas tank. Finally he realized this and now they look streamlined with the motorcycle.
Tankgrip is an entirely handmade shell with integrated handles that can be fitted simply and quickly to a motorcycle’s petrol tank. The shell can be made from polyester or carbon fiber, depending on the customer’s preference. Tankgrip is always altered to suit the make of bike so that it creates a single streamlined unit.
The product is fully compliant with safety standards and will not injure either the rider or the passenger in the event of an accident, because it is constructed from saturated fiberglass and the shell therefore cannot rupture. The Tankgrip manufacturing process is extensive and the prices are therefore between 350 euro for the lacquer-finished variant and 450 euros for the carbon-fiber version.
Once a bike rider has discovered Tankgrip and the sensation and feeling of safety that the product generates for both passenger and rider, they will never want to be without one again.
